Price drop for Nintendo DSi and DSi XL

Presumably making market space for the forthcoming 3DS, Nintendo is dropping the suggested retail price on its DSi and DSi XL handheld systems.

Nintendo is dropping the suggested retail price of its Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL on September 12. The new SRP (suggested retail price) of the Nintendo DSi system will be US$149.99 and C$149.99, down twenty bucks from the current price in the US and down a generous thirty bills in Canada (where it was poorly matched with the exchange rate to begin with). The super-sized DSi XL system, meanwhile, will be reduced to US$169.99 and C$169.99, also down twenty dollars, thirty in Canada.

The Nintendo DS Lite, the model that doesn't have cameras but is backward compatible with old GameBoy games, will remain at its suggested retail price of US$129.99, C$139.99.

Nintendo will be releasing yet another version of its market-leading DS franchise next spring, the Nintendo 3DS, so dubbed for the new system's ability to display 3D images without the need for special 3D glasses.
